We’ve been talking about insects this week, which might not be the most romantic thing out there… and, this might be a stretch, but imagine living in a small cocoon, dangling from the treetops, it doesn’t get much more romantic than that. Today we are admiring and celebrating those who do it like the bugs, the birds and the bees, by building lovely little nests in the trees.
If we could be anywhere right now, we would be cuddling up with our lovers and loved ones in the amazing tree fort above; The Lion Sands’ Chalkley Tree House in Kruger National Park, South Africa. Surrounded by lions, hyenas and all kinds of wildlife, this 9 meter tall, two-level platform structure built around a 500 year-old Leadwood tree is not for the fainthearted.
We would also settle for any of the locations below, like the Yellow Redwood Treehouse in Aukland, which was built according to an arborist’s advise for how to best look after the trees health and with focus on finding the most sustainable way possible of building in a trees. Just like beehives and hornets nests, many of these structures seem to be working with, rather than against the nature surrounding them, forming symbiotic relationships with their local environment, rather than taking advantage.
Which brings us right back to where we started — happy V-day — and remember to take care of and nurture the ones you love!
